Pizza Hut renaming itself Pasta Hut for April Fool's

According to a news report from chicagotribune.com, "Pizza Hut claims that it is renaming itself "Pasta Hut" as the company introduces a line of new Tuscani pastas."

"According to the PR News wire, the company's Web site has been redesigned, including the new URL www.newpastahut.com, the new Pasta Hut logo and a message for consumers: "Pasta so good, we changed our name to Pasta Hut!" said the story. "However, the Dallas Morning News reported last week that the new name is just an April Fool's joke to bring attention to the new pasta line."

Pizza Hut preparing pans of pasta for delivery

According to a news report from usatoday.com, "Pizza Hut wants folks to start thinking of it also as something a tad more squishy: Pasta Hut."

"The nation's largest pizza chain on Tuesday unveils plans to start delivering pasta on April 6 — something no pizza chain does nationally. The move comes as sales in the $37 billion pizza business are slowing with the overall economy," said the story. "If we do it right, pasta could become as big a business as pizza," says Brian Niccol, chief marketing officer. For consumers, "It changes what foods they can get delivered." Its new Tuscani Pastas will come as Creamy Chicken Alfredo and Meaty Marinara. The price for the pasta is $11.95, the same as a large pizza with one topping, and Pizza Hut says they'll feed a family of six. The pastas are baked in the pizza ovens and come with five breadsticks. Even as burger and chicken chains have expanded menus in recent years, few pizza chains have. After success with delivery of its WingStreet chicken wings, Pizza Hut not only is embracing pasta, but would consider modifying its name if pasta is a hit, Niccol says."

Super Bowl pizza stats revealed

ARLINGTON, Texas — Local pizzerias served pies to as many customers as the biggest chain on the biggest pizza day of the year, according to a nationwide study by marketing research and consulting firm Decision Analysis. One out of five Americans had pizza on Super Sunday, and one in four of those pizzas came from a local store.
Local pizzerias came away with a bigger piece of the pie than either Domino’s or Papa John’s.
Pizza Hut served up over a quarter of the pizzas and Papa John’s and Domino’s each accounted for 15 percent of sales on Super Sunday, according to the study. One in three pizza orders for the major chains were placed online, with Papa John’s leading the way at 38 percent of orders placed through their website.
Local stores took their orders over the phone (79 percent) or in person (12 percent), and their customers were about twice as likely as those from the major chains to pick up their orders rather than have it delivered.

The Customer's Tastebuds Are Always Right

When I tasted the Greenwich Pizza ‘Garden Delight’ in the Philippines, my tastebuds got a shock!

The pizza was covered with sweet tomato sauce and the cheese on top was cheddar.

I’ve been eating pizza all my life. Pizza is made with tangy tomato sauce and should be covered with mozzarella cheese, right? Sweet sauce and cheddar is no way to make a pizza.

Unless you want to sell a lot of pizza in the Philippines.

Greenwich Pizza doesn’t care what pizza is known for in Italy or New York or anywhere else for that matter. Greenwich wants to dominate the Philippine pizza market. As far as they’re concerned, when you are in the Philippines, Philippine tastebuds rule.

If the local market wants sweet, then sweet tomato sauce it is. If local customers prefer cheddar, spread on the cheddar cheese.

Global brands Pizza Hut, Shakeys and Dominos all sell pizza in the Philippines. But local Greenwich is the market leader.

Why? Because Pizza Hut, Shakeys and Dominos all make their pizza to global (not local) pizza standards. With plenty of tangy tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese.
